Today, July 15, is the birthday of the Famicom (NES)

Forty-two years have passed since the Famicom (NES) went on sale.

As an elementary school student living in a corner of Kyoto, I got my first NES about a year after it was released. At that time, the buttons on the Famicom were made of square rubber.

The Famicom boom had not yet arrived, and I was able to easily purchase one at the Takashimaya Department Store in Rakusai, Kyoto. I was impressed by the clerk’s conversation with another customer about how the price of cassettes was going to go up soon.

The first cassette my parents bought me was “Road Runner”. I think I made a good choice.
